The 2017 Harvest Festival will be celebrated throughout the ‘Marsh on Sunday, 17th March 2017. The Blacksmith’s Cottage will be joining the celebrations with a tempting display of local produce. Come and visit us, it will be an opportunity for you to walk through our Heritage listed buildings where a large portion of Bacchus Marsh’s history was “forged”.

It was worth the wait! The old police cell had been sitting quietly in the rear yard following its donation to the Cottage and Forge by the Victoria Police (Bacchus Marsh) many years ago. In June 2014, with labour supplied by the Lions Club and funds from our Shire, the cell was lifted, rotated and renovated – made ready for presentation to our visitors. It is with great sadness that the Blacksmith’s Cottage and Forge Committee and Volunteers note the passing of Marjorie Goodchild, a dedicated volunteer and committee member. Marjorie was for many years a volunteer at our historic premises. She was instrumental in mounting many of our displays, using her extensive textile knowledge and craft skills. The Margaret Moritz Award for 2015-16 has been awarded to Bungaree Primary School. The school has been awarded $500 to continue their involvement with developing a History Walk for the town. The money will be used to help fund an archaeological survey of some sites, for example the police station and blacksmith’s workshop.
